We have both some closed with doors and some with just the south side open the length of it. My brother has one that is open on the est end and an open section at the bottom on the west end. The building was renovated and the west end has not had the door changed to go all the way down yet. Our sheds/barns are built differently I guess than most are now. And I would continue to build them the same way. We set pols then put 2x12 plates across them then when we set the rafters we nail in a stub between the plates to nail the rafters to . This allows us to have wide openings for driving through. The buildings have been there from mid 60's to the mid 80's when the last one was built. All different sizes and heights. 32x32 to 60x60 one was 40x80 and I added another 20 feet to it so now 40x100. Never had a roof come off nor the steel roofing. We use 2inch for the roof boards/purlins flat ways. Rafters are as much as 7 feet apart with boards on 2 foot centers. Some of the poles are just now getting so I will need to do something with them . When that happens if I could raise a couple of them up a bout 2-4 feet would be good. As they are all now at 12 feet under the plates. 16 would be good for getting equipment in.
