I have a Massey 98 and also the oliver 990 gm, The 98 was built in 59 and 60 , massey supposedly ordered 400 oliver 990 gm and were marketing them as the 98, for massey had no high horsepower tractors . They claimed in their brochure the 98 to have the best diesel engine on the market. At the time they were trying to sow up the deal with perkins to install their engine in the new tractors and as a result, the people at perkins were discusted by the acclamation the detriot was a superior engine so they said to Ferguson, break the deal or we will pull our deal. Therefore only an estimated 226 massey 98 were ever sold at a ferguson dealer and the rest turned back to oliver. There are a few diffences , the fenders on a 98 are rolled over on the edges where as the oliver is straight also the hubs are slightly different but still fit . Be sure it has a tag on it they fall off easily. This tractor is worth at least 5000$ , As I have been offered 12500 for mine.
