I always go to Pioneer Power early to get good parking. I got there at 4:30 a.m. Friday and got the first spot right outside the gate by the buildings. I'd rather nap for a while or sip coffee in my truck than walk a mile each time I needed to unload my cart (which I did four times). I found tons of stuff -- four Homelite chainsaws (all running), some heavy-duty cart wheels with new tires, a couple of floor jacks, a new 20-foot log chain, a folding hand cart, two nice 15-inch trailer tires, far too many oldie-but-goody hand tools, even an old horse saddle for $7. Of course, it goes without saying that now I have to buy a horse, but that's how these things develop and accumulate, right? Right? When I left around 3 p.m. to hit Le Center yard sales there were still vehicles lined up along the roads in all directions for at least a mile. It's a crazy event!

What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
