Finally found a 1020 head. 16' so I can pull it into the shop while still on the combine when I am doing the repairs the seller declined to mention. We all know there will be repairs..LOL. This thing looks to be in decent shape, has new sections, wobble bearings appear tight. It was 4 hours from home in Indiana. Price was about $1400 less than the last three that sold at auction up this way. They opened a Portillos restaurant north of South Bend. The entire family volunteered to help when I casually mentioned I was going to lunch there. That put the PU out of the running so I had to take the Flex. Very nice vehicle to travel in and pulls 6K at the hitch so nice for a smaller load. Left the header trailer home and took the car hauler with lots of cribbing...another good choice. Had a nice visit with seller. Loaded it, tied it down and checked the tires. One stop to adjust the straps about 5 miles out and then, 10.5 hours after I left that AM, we were home.
I was amazed at how much field work appears to be done in SW Michigan and Indiana. We are under water here and not even thinking about it yet. It snowed on us while we were heading down. Also amazed at how many center pivots I saw in SW Michigan. Huge setups covering a lot of acreage but I even saw what must have been 2-3 acres with one section set up in it. Seems like a lot of $$$ and you would not think we needed that much irrigation here? Must be the soil is a lot sandier over that way or ???? Curious.

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
