If only it was like that up here in the New England area. It's not common to see the older standard tread tractors up here, especially anything not JD or IH, and even those are far and few between.
At your suggestion of $1000 being reasonable, is that in reference to just a plain old L or one with the electric start and generator? I know for the F series Farmalls the electric start setup alone would add at least $500 without the generator.
Other Case tractors I've seen, mostly the styled ones from the 40s and 50s, are in the $500-$1200 range in good running condition, and usually sell for much cheaper than the JDs and IH tractors of the same era, though they're also mostly all row-crops.
I believe the owner said it was brush painted when he got it 20+ years ago and the only thing that may be new is the hood, plus a repair to the manifold. Otherwise it looks to be in really good condition and very straight.
