: : : : OK, Don't everybody hit me at once, I'm new to this! What does "Styled" mean when talking tractors? Pete : Everybody's gotta start somewhere, Pete! "Styled" refers primarily to tractors with sheet metal added for purely asthetic purposes. For Farmalls and John Deeres, this started about 1939 or so, depending on the model. For example, my 1938 Farmall F14 (check the link for a picture) is "unstyled"...the radiator hangs right out in the breeze, and there's no sheet metal that wasn't absolutely required. All "Letter Series" (A, H, M, etc) Farmall's are "Styled" with grilles in front of the radiator, swoopy hoods and very pretty gas tanks. Designers like Raymond Loewy were hired by the big tractor makers to implement this "styling" which improved appearance and operator comfort. Thanks Paul!!
