I have Titans on a new, 2007 Branson FEL, 4wd. I bought in the year. Front tires are 10 ply R1s and fat, 18" wheel, forget the numbers. Figured a new tractor shouldn't have cracking tires.....rears are Titans 16.9x28 and were and still are fine and replacement fronts are showing small concentric crack lines liek the original but not growing. Bought the tractor, took the tires to the local Titan dealer, he contacted Titan, Titan made it good, he changed them I went home and that was that. I have Kelly Springfield 2000s 13.6x28s I put on a Ford 2000 and 3000 at least 20 years ago, kept under a car port roof thingie and no cracks anywhere to date.
After reading an ad on a tire mfgrs. www, I found out that "plasticizers" are put in the tread compound to keep it supple but move through the compound as the tire is flexed....in short it appears that if the tires just sit, they'll crack. If they are kept in motion they are crack resistant....depending on the amount and type of plasticizer. Also, I find that some tires are flat, dull in finish on the outside when new and others are shiny. My gut feel take on the subject is that the ones that feel slick and shiny have an abundance of plasticizers and will resist cracking the longest........my take, worth what you paid for it. Grin

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
