I had a MF 35, 1960's timeline. Pulled the steering assist hyd cylinder off the steering arm and forget what I did about the pump V belt. Anyway it steered as you would expect with a non assisted steering tractor of the size. On a Ford I had a bad pump and wanted steering so I went to a junk yard and found a Ford Pinto steering pump and installed it. Problem was I didn't realize that the 4000 4 cyl Ford had a piston on each steering arm and the Pinto only had one cylinder for steering.....had to be at PTO rpms to get any kind of usable steering speed.....course a V belt and pulley ratio change could have changed that but looking into that it wasn't mechanically practical given the space available and I don't know how the pump would have reacted to high speeds..
