In the last few years I've worked with both farmalls and John Deeres. Whether it's my farmall A or my Grandpa's JD A, H, or 420. They all get the job done and get it done right. It's a matter of care and attention. At least that's been the story with our equipment. Between the 4 tractors we own I've had the most trouble with my farmall, however, that's mostly error on my part. Since I grew up around JDs I knew little about farmalls. Thus, I was pretty inexperienced in there mechanics. That's the biggest reason I've had more trouble with it. So as far as reliability goes, I'd have to give both high marks. However, convenience and operator comfort are another story. Keep in mind that I'm only comparing the farmall and the deeres that I've used (all from 1944-1956). As far as convenience goes I have to go with Deere. It's take two men and a boy to mount most of the equipment on my farmall a. However, the JDs are much more convenient to do so. Now, when it comes to comfort my farmall has the upper hand. It's a much more comfortable tractor to operate and sit on for 14 hours. The old hand clutch and metal seat on the A work a man over after that many hours. Needless to say, no matter what color the old iron is it gets the job done and really is a joy to work with. God bless.

But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
