There are two types of blocks , one is for a front mount distributor . The very early 9N's did not have welch plugs but these are the exceptions . The majority of 9n , 2N , and about half of the 8N used the front mount distributor blocks and they have the thin .040 steel sleeves ( unless they have been modified ) but basically they are identical .
The other block is for a side mount distributor and the generator was moved to the left side of the motor so a boss with holes for studs were cast in that side . These blocks will work with the front mount distributor set up . The later model blocks had thicker .090 cast iron sleeves and a larger geared oil pump .
So basically you have a front mount distributor or a side mount . They are 60 - 70 years old and who knows what internal parts have been installed . I have seen automotive sleeves installed ( non replaceable ) and older blocks bored for the thick sleeves . Some have been re-machined for the larger oil pump / gears , so never order internal parts until you have verified what you need .
You may get a clue from the casting code by the starter . An 8n-b or 8n-c may be a later block .
If you have a 3 speed and 6 lug rear wheels it is basically a 9n , if you have a 4 speed and 8 lug rear tires it is an 8N .
