I will start buy saying. An inline cylinder engine is what diesels like to be! I worked for an IH dealer and on many of there engines. The Powerstroke or what we called the T444E has ups and downs. One up is they do crank it up! and have seen some high milers. The Down side? Lets see $2800 dollars for a set of injectors if yours get water soaked. There is no injector pump per say. It is a High pressure oil pump that presureizes the injector (instead of a Cam lobe) The regulated oil pressure pushes the fuel through the injection process when the electronics say so. There are many ghosts which are disguised as sensors and depending on the year and the configuration of the ECM can give real reliability problems. It is a extremely high dollar engine to repair. If I had to choose between the two I would look to the 24 Valve Cummins. But I would prefer a 3126B Cat in a newer Ford F400-700. Or an International 466E or 530E when they decide to offer it. I would always buy a Inline diesel over a V desighn any day of the week. Any questions Email me!
