I was stopped by a Federal DOT officer in 1994 he wrote the dealership I worked for a ticket for not having the proper equipment & papers. He wrote me a warning ticket for driving a truck without proper equipment & papers. He told me because we were tagged for more than 24,000 LB we were bound by the Federal DOT laws. Regardless even if we never left the state. It cost the dealership a $1300 find plus we had to file for DOT authority to run the truck. Everyone who drove that truck had to have a DOT physical and we each had to keep a log book. the laws may have changed since then but I would check with DOT before I would run one.
