What part of the country do you live in? Is there sufficient insulation (an moisture barrier) above the bathroom in the attic to prevent condensation from humidity in the attic and is that part of the attic vented properly?
Here in Houston, I have had trouble with cold air filtering around the vent boxes in the ceiling and condensing the very humid summer air on the boxes which then runs down and stains the ceiling and makes it moldy.
In a colder part of the US, a cold ceiling (again insufficient insulation) could also condense more of the steam and prevent it from evaporating as quickly.
