The Delco-Remy 6-volt generator on my Farmall H is capable of making 9 volts. The voltage regulator was not functioning properly. I'm guessing because someone had grounded the wire from the field terminal, and that kind of melted the innards on the regulator. I purchased a new voltage regulator from IH. The new regulator mounted to the generator, but it had four terminals instead of three, and required a little rewiring. Namely, removing the headlight resistor from the charging circuit, and running a new wire from the L terminal of the new regulator to the main switch to power the lights. The most interesting thing about the kit was it contained a resistor that mounted between the F terminal on the regulator and the field terminal on the generator. The regulator is now working, because for the first time the ammeter is showing a charge. But the voltage output of the generator is only a little better than 7 volts, and that doesn't seem to be enough to keep the battery charged. After fully charging the battery out of the tractor and then mowing with the tractor for several hours, there isn't enough juice left in the battery to turn the starter. The starter has always worked fine when the battery is fully charged, and the cables are new 1 guage. I'm stumped and I'm wondering if I should remove the IH supplied resistor that came with the voltage regulator? Does anyone have any ideas?

The Fordson F Ignition System - by Anthony West. A fellow restorer contacted me earlier this year asking for some help and advice on a model F that he was restoring. He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
