Hello,
I don't know what year they started but gmc made a 305, a 35?, and one in the 39? range. I can't remember the exact cid of the larger two, but the three of them are V6's. This may be what they are talking about. Most of if not all, I can't remember the transition, the 6cyl engines of 54 were inline 6.
