I've plowed with a moldboard plow, 1 pass with disc harrow, broadcast oats, then made a final pass with the disc harrow. The results were good, a thick stand came up. This was not for a grain crop. We have also plowed, disc'd, broadcast oats, then run the cultipacker over them for a grain crop. Results were another good stand. The following year we got a JD 8300 series drill and used that to plant. Does not seem hard to get oats to grow around here. I was surprised the wildlife did not take a lot of the seed when we broadcast. One year in my field here, after harvest, they came back strong, some re-grew, other was grain dropped by the combine's grain head. It was enough to harvest as forage, it did head out again, would have produced some grain. Deer loved it, was there during archery season.
