What is even more impressive is that in a 30 day period of time the Allies landed at Normandy, we landed at Biak in Dutch New Guinea and the Mariana islands (Saipan & Guam). A very impressive comeback from the dark days right after Dec 7 1941. So much for Hitler's belief that the US and our allies would not be able to fight a major war on 2 fronts.
The Normandy invasion was a superhuman effort. Anyone who has the opportunity to tour the Normandy beachhead area and to honor those who died there should do so. It is something that will stay with you for life.
