Well it has been a busy few days. Got over 3 inches of rain the first part of the week. Then got sunny days. Showed sunny from Wed. thru Sunday. So tried cutting hay Wed. afternoon. That did not work, got the windrower stuck. So Thursday I put the JD 935 Moco on the JD 4450 MFWD. I could plow through the wet spots with that. Moved the JD 4995 to dryer ground.
We needed to lay the hay down faster so I broke out some of my trading stock and tried it out. I traded for a JD 956 Moco last fall I did not really want it but the fellow wanted a tractor I had really bad so I got the mower for a song. It has the end transport trailer that works slick. The only tractor that I had that was not needed else where was the JD 4960. It still had the duals on it. Well with the 15 foot cut and throwing the hay into a tight windrow, there was room for the duals. Was glad for the duals in a few wet spots. Made that mower work with the HP on the front of it. LOL With the three machines going we got the hay mowed/finished a little after midnight.
Why the push??? Well our hay got winter killed bad this year. We seeded down over 300 acres of new hay. We planted Oats with it for a cover crop so that will be chopped for hayledge later on. The old hay stands we wanted top get baled so we can plant them to our silage corn.
Friday two of my sons where able to get started notilling the soybeans in. I rented a second hay tedder and after dark Friday night we tedded all the hay out. Throwing the hay in tight windrows allows the ground to dry then you can spread the hay out and get it to cure.
Friday and Saturday where great drying days. So around 2 PM yesterday We started raking the hay. Good and dry in 95% of the places. Raked around the wet spots. The hay was not real thick. Cool weather and the winter kill cut it way down. We started baling soon after raking. We had all three balers in the field by 4 pm. By dark everything was baled. My one son and four Grand Daughters started hauling bales as soon as they hit the ground. One of them had my JD 6410 with a loader and rear spear, grouping the bales into groups of 12. We have four wagons with racks on them to haul 12 bales each. Double them up and your taking 24 rolls at a shot. I borrowed my brother's JD 8210 with a JD 840 loader. He has a double bale spear on it. So you can lift/load two bales at a time. So my son loaded the bales while two of the grand daughters haul bales home. My oldest Grand Daughter ran the JD 644 end loader unloading wagons, it has a double spear with grapple on it. They got all the bales off just before midnight.
My oldest son switched from running a baler to a corn planter around 6 PM. My brother took over planting around 1 am this morning. I did the chores for my middle son as he took over the planter around 5 AM. He texted me a little while ago that the silage corn was done.
My Other boys parked the planters around 2 Am this morning with all the soybeans finished.
We will have to move hay bales around Monday. They are just stacked/piled wherever she could unload them the fastest at. The really wet spots with wet hay got tedded out and left to rot. It was not worth delaying the planter for the few wet hay bales that would have been there. So just planted right through it.
It is cloudy here with a change of showers after lunch and thunder storms later. So we are all darn glad the work is done. Let it rain!!!!
I told everyone to turn off their phones and rest up/sleep an enjoy some family time later. Not a wheel to be turned until evening chores.
PS. Turns out not listening runs in the females in the herd. LOL Just had two of the Grand Daughters PLUS my Mother blast by mowing the grass. My Mother blew me a raspberry as she went by. LOL The Grand Daughters had to follow up with one for me too. LOL Just for that I texted them and told them they can do the weed eating then. I will just set here and watch them mow. Well that did not work. My MOTHER mowed about a six foot circle around the two trees right in front of the house and then texted me that I need more grass to trim. LOL I do not have to look far to see where the "bad" influence on the Grand Daughters comes from. LOL Well had better get the weed eater started. Have a good day.
