Another stupid thing folks do is to erect a sign of some sort in their yard indicating that one of their offspring carry # xyz on the local football/basketball/cheerleader......team.
Had a local guy who was well known as an avid HS foot ball team supporter. Got hit one Friday night while he was at the game. Thieves had a load of his stuff in their PU truck headed for a buyer when passing through a small town on the way, the muffler fell off and the local police stopped the truck for excessive noise. Upon finding the loot in the box and seeing the guys name on several items detained them and as it turned out, charged the thieves.
