Mike, you wont get any argument from me.I farm using two 1206's,a 1966 and 1967 models and both are running around 130-140 horses in the field. They both play with a 21ft Krause disk,14ft IH chisel, and 24ft IH field cultivator running in high 1st.That DT 361 IH motor is indestructible. The worst part of a 1206 is the TA.1206 IH's were sure tough at the tractor pulls from the mid 60's to the early 70's.

To Cynicism Runs Rampant, yes 4020's have better resale but at a recent farm sale near me a real decent 4020 JD only brought $7500 much to the crowds surprise.A slick 4020 might bring $10,000.Good 1206's go for $6000-6500.4020 JD's around anymore here are just loader and haying tractors.None are used for tillage work and havent been for years.Several people around here tried running turbos on their 4020's and had to take them off. You'd better leave them stock. That non cross flow head builds too much heat with a turbo.

John Deeres are good tractors and most of my neighbors run them but I just dont care too.The last JD on our farm was a 1947 A and I was happy to see it go in the mid 60's.I pulled a 2x16 JD plow with it and Dad lapped me every 3 rounds pulling a 3x14 Case plow with his 1949 M Farmall.

Both the 1206 IH and the 4020 JD will go down as some of the 60's greatest tractors but I still think the 1967 Series II D-21 Allis we owned had to rank right up there. It was a horse.

Today's Featured Article - Fordson Model N: Field Service Operations and Lubrication - by Anthony West. The daily or weekly servicing of any vehicle is of the utmost importance, and in days gone by when our favorite tractors were doing an important and Commercially vital job on the farm, these service operations would make a major difference to the running costs and economy of the farm. This being so, it surprises me to see how many enthusiasts attending rallies, shows etc, seem to be unaware of the importance of this constant attention. Possibly the modern machine with its 6,000 mile or even once ... [Read Article]
