No answer for flasher problem ,but as for charging system you need to adjust your voltage regulator to 8 1/2-9 volts and you will not have to charge it. Have you tried the 12v. "motor driven flasher" that they use on big trucks? they are square and usualy have mounting ears on them,tho they ar not very big, maybe 1 1/2- 2" sq. they are unaffected by load ( number of bulbs/amp. draw) worth a try.
