John you were spot on, and I appreciate the information. Paragraph 2 was about what happened. I like you have been around ih stuff since the mid 50s , thing is this was a build that just like you said I knew nothing about what they used. I checked the coil input just like you said and I expected a built in resister wire. Replaced the coil and thing runs like a champ, get the brakes done and thing will be ready for the body shop. Been a fun few days. Thanks for all the replies guys. One of the poster mentioned about ih changing thing in mid stream, seems they used what was available at the time. Little know fact but there is one year of the scout production that uses an Olds side view mirror. Sure they bought them cheap . LOL
