"Uncle Tinker" often got the equipment cobbled back together but built in more trouble down the road. A 195F thermostat is fine in any water pumped gas, diesel or all fuel engine & 40% non poisonous polypropylene glycol anti freeze/distilled water . And a functioning factory spec pressure cap. Rapid ring/bore wear is commonly caused by too cold an engine or rich mixtures washing the lube off the cylinder walls.
