I saw this post pretty late but had to add something, My Great Uncle was in the Navy Sea Bees and was on his way to Pearl Harbor when the attack happened. Things were still smoking and hot when he and his outfit got there. I guess that was quite the clean up operation, and he is just now starting to talk about some of it. I hope to hear some of his stories soon. His health is getting bad and he may not be around much longer to tell them. He did tell me that his outfit followed the advance invasions all over the pacific and they were to put up bases and air strips right after the Navy shelled and the Marines landed. He managed to tell one story about a bunk mate and friend of his who was just walking past a stack of 3 500 lb bombs that some Einstein put a dark green tarp over to keep them out of the super hot sun on the island since there were not many trees left in that area.(future airstrip)Supplies and muntions were arriving before they got any buildings up. Apparantly the heat contributed to one bomb going off, and then set the other 2 off as he walked past. There was not very much left of the poor guy to send home. I will never forget the look on my "normally calm and collected" Uncle's face when he told me that story. I think about that poor guy and all the others who never got to come home and be with family at Christmas. Lets not forget the guys who did come back but had to live through some of the worst conditions and see the most horrible sights that hopfully none of us will ever have to see and they are still dealing with that after all these years. I still think about my poor 5th grade teacher who fought in Germany and suffered from shell shock. He died my 5th grade year(74-75) but I always remember the tough times he had dealing with the memories and from his old injurys on occasion. He also beamed with delight when we could get him to forget about studies and talk about the good times he and his buddys over there managed to have from time to time(most had to do with getting one over on Sarg). Every war has its stories and heroes and victims, we need to listen to the ones we can hear now as they are getting fainter every passing day! The storys from The Revolutionary,French and Indian, 1812,Mexican American, Civil, Spanish American, and soon WW1 wars are all locked into what is written in books. More can be added to the pages of history if we listen while we can. Bless all the Vets!

Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
