I have a friend who is a manager at our local Lowes. He says the hard part is balancing corporate projections with the reality of the economics of our area with the ability of the few people who want to work at Lowes. The people that they do get applying that are competent, can do simple stuff like show up for work sober and straight, know anything at all about building materials are few and far between. When they have to deal with corporate decisions that make absolutely no sense in our locality (it's 4 months until spring- we don't need potted plants! was his example) they get burnt out fast. I still prefer Lowes to our local "lumber yards", but I find myself ordering on line instead of hoofing it around the store, hoping a 19 year old can help me find a product he's never even heard of before, much less seen.
