I agree with those who say radials have better traction. I prefer tubes with liquid ballast in any case. And to those who say that liquid ballast is a thing of the past I say-- I'd like to see how you hang enough weights on a 400hp. 4wd /outboard planetaries, that will do any good at all , to harness that kind of power. Dry with weights works well in some cases but not always. I changed the tires on my 1100 Massey about a month ago and left the fluid out. A week ago I tried to pull a big truck out of the ditch at the end of my lane. The 1100 sat there spinning on the dry pavement like a garden tractor. Didn't even make the front-end lite. The fluid's definitely going back in next spring. If I find a loader for it, its gonna have fluid and weights. Rear tractor tires wear out prematuraly for two reasons-Running up and down hard surfaced roads, and excessive slipage in the field caused by a lack of enough weight to give them proper traction. If you got the weight -about 100lb./hp.for 2wd(10-15%less for radials and that varies with tire height-ie;the lower the tire the more weight you need /hp.) and you're worried about soil compaction, then add more width of tire -either wider tires or duals, or if tire width is limited because of rowcrop, then you should be running front wheel assist. I've seem lots of people going down the field /wheel weights hanging on the wheels and their wheel tracks all tore up behind them-obviously no fluid,and they think they're running efficiently!! Oh well!!
