It made a great trailer puller and made 21 mpg. years later I replaced the little Detroit with a 427 V8 gas which makes 7 mpg, and although it has more high rpm power than the 4-53 it has nowhere near the hill climbing torque of the little Diesel. amazing considering the Detroit has only 212 CI.Less than 1/2 the size of the big gas V8.
