Well Bruce It might have been a "Lucky Day" after all. That broken pin in the other tractor could have allowed some thing to have been damaged worse than the spreader.
Ford had the worst setup. My 6000 had a clip on the top of the pin that held it from falling out the bottom. Any kind of weeds or corn stalks and you would lose the pin. I lost one drawbar while plowing and had another slid out but I caught it before I lost it. I drilled and taped two holes on the bottom side and made a plate to hold the pin in.
I like the later pin design that Loren shows. I have made these pins by just cutting off a heat treated hitch pin and welding a strap to the piece. You can find one inch hitch pins on sale for under $8 here.
