Clean or replace the points and the odds are in your favor that the mag will work.
Next likely point of failure would be the condenser.
Jim told you how to make a basic test of the coil, and even if it passes the basic Ohms tests it may fail to produce a good spark.
If there's even one "shorted turn" in the windings of the coil it won't throw the Ohms readings out of the normal range, but in operation it will convert what should be spark energy to heat, making for a non-existent or weak spark.
The only (reasonably accurate) way to test a mag (or Kettering ignition coil, for that matter) is with a tester made for the purpose that "rings" the coil.
If it has even the slightest internal short, it will fail the "ringing test".
