King, I don't use any chemicals on lawn, including fertilizer, weed killer and I have wild hairs growing all over.
Part of my yard is weeds and the part that is zoysia grass. We went without rain for 2 weeks. The weed part of lawn looks like crap. Zoysia grass has no weeds and is a green carpet. After frost, the zoysia grass will turn brown and the weeds will be green. So either you love zoysia or you hate it.
BYW, moles don't pop up in zoysia. It a thick mass of roots.
I needed to plant grass where I removed evergreens. I hired a friend to run my 12 inch ryan Jr 12 inch sod cutter. It shakes too much for my arthritis. Went to back yard and had him cut 250 ft of zoysia leaving strips of zoysia behind that will grow back. I rolled up the zoysia, put it in front bucket of terramite and moved it to where I needed sod. Unrolled sod, job was done. Instant lawn. No plugs for me. I soaked the sod many times and drove lawn mover over it to pack it in mud.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
