Sixty diesel conversion. If I am not mistaken, this is an early D8800 4 cylinder, it would have exposed push rods on the other side. The 2 cylinder starting engine on this engine was the most common one used, it was used on the 3 cylinder Forty, later the RD-6 and early D6 tractors, 2H series I believe. Also used on the RD7, D7, diesel 75, RD8, and D8 series tractors with D13000 engines. Mid 30's to mid 50's is the approximate production run. They like a good fuel supply and hot spark to run right. I always thought they were marginal for the D8800 engine, but seeing they were also designed for the same engine with an additional 2 cylinders, must be more to that. They need to be running perfectly for best performance and there is no better cold start option in my opinion, properly tuned these start easily by hand and once running, it was always said if you can get the pony running, the diesel is sure to start.
I have to wonder if this particular tractor was formerly George Howard's, GWH over on ACMOC. Pretty sure he had one of these diesel conversions in that condition.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
