While it is not state of the art now, I bet its the best they could do at the time. Military surplus truck and a milk tanker. (Coble Dairy perhaps?)
That reminds me of a tale my Uncle used to tell. First town firetruck here was somehow ordered without a defroster. One particularly cold night (For NC at least) he rode in it to a house fire. He sat in the middle and had to constantly wipe the frost off the windshield so the driver could see the road. A fire truck from a neighboring town arrived. They had to pull that truck up close to the fire to thaw the pump so they could use it. The next day they took the truck to the Ford dealer to get a heater and defroster installed.
