About 11:00 am, neither of us had seen anything, so we climbed down from our stands, and were walking up the trail to his pickup when it started to rain. We both ran the last 30 yards to the truck, opened the doors, threw our rifles in the seat, (muzzle pointing down, of course) and were climbing in when.......BOOM! His gun went off! We sat there, wide eyed, ears ringing, and looked at each other when he finally said: "Damn! Did you see that big deer run right under my truck?" Cost him a new transmission and us a 3 mile walk in the rain, but we both laughed til we couldn't hardly breathe! Both are more vigilant about making sure safety is engaged on out guns now as well.
