Just a guess but sounds to me like your troubles are with you hands on the loader controls.

You wanna have the bucket level with the ground to start off, come up the pile, lower the lower to the ground (till it touches, not digs in) You wanna drive the tractor into the pile a little ways while curling up the bucket. once full lift loader and drive backout. when you get the hang of it you can curl the bucket and lift the loader at the same time plus put tractor into reverse in matter of sec...

With weight and 4wd you should have no troubles getting a full bucket, its all in how you load it (the bucket)
