A few observations. I have to say after watching the video, a blue tractor must be the mirrored image of a green one. I felt blind in my right eye trying to watch the road, then towards the end of the video, that blind spot kept shaking back and forth so bad it distracted me from the traffic. I couldn't stop watching it, thinking it was going to depart company with the tractor.
On another note, what happens when you have a 40 mph sticker and someone rear ends you because you were only going 20? Is some huckster lawyer going to sue you for going too slow because the driver thought you were going 40 according to your signage?
And the cop in the video said you HAVE to have a sticker. He didn't say it's only required for tractors that exceed the 25 mph associated with a SMV sign. Nor did he say this was only for all new equipment sold in the future.
And he said the corresponding number WILL BE determined by the manufacturer. Determined by the manufacturer who made the EQUIPMENT or the TIRES? It's usually the tires that have the speed rating or limitations.
And the farmer WILL BE REQUIRED to carry a spec sheet from both the tractor mfg'er AND the implement mfg'er to determine it's rated speed. So just where are you going to carry this spec sheet on your B John Deere or your IH M or even a cabbed tractor from the 60s? It would be nothing but mouse nest in about 6 months and that's if you could keep it dry that long.
Also, how are you going to get a spec sheet for every piece of equipment from every manufacturer when there are literally hundreds of equipment companies that went out of business years ago for all of the aged equipment still in use on many farms.
And just who is going to enforce these laws? And what are the penalties if you don't comply?
And what about all these UTV side by sides on the roads now? Most have only tail lights and head lights. Most have no brake lights or turn signals, yet most drivers don't use the hand signals required. Most don't have a highway type tread on their tires. Are they a slow moving farm vehicle or not? Some go 40 or 50 mph as well, yet they have neither a SMV sign or a license plate. Are they any different than a tractor?
Anyway, just a few things to stew on. I'm gonna go mow some frogs and toads before the next deluge hits.
