back in the 1980's when leaded gas was phased out i heard an older mechanic friend tell me to use 1 quart of straight 30 wt. motor oil to about every 4 or 5 tank fulls of gas. he said it would provide a better lubrication for the valve seats since lead in gasoline was no longer available. i had a F-600 ford truck with a 50 gallon saddle tank. of course you would have to adjust the oil/gas ratio on smaller vehicles/tractors. it did seem to help performance and did quieten down the engine pinging. i would not do it now with todays modern engines, but maybe it could help in some of the older lower compression gas engines. the worst it could do would be not to help anything and maybe smoke slightly until it is all burned away.
