I had all kinds of issues with a customer 1830, it had filters plugged and metal filings in the brake system pedal unit that had been through everything else. The pto , hydrualics, steering and high low shift would randomly quit while trying to diagnose it with test equipment. If that tractors getting worn out and showing issues It can get real expensive quick, I've seen 2950's do the same to.
you have got to test that hyd system properly, and fix problems as you find them before moving on to the next issue. you can't just throw parts in and hope it works. JD set the worn steering box up and re sealed it on that 1830 before it had other issues the next year.
It could be cheaper to sell it to somebody else that loves Deere tractors and let them figure it out. Rather than you own it and are dumping money in and still got somebody elses trouble. I know of another guy with an 1830 / JD loader he got cheap at auction , he's had it years and spent a fortune on it fixing as it went wrong and painting it up It's like new now. He sold the business he used it with for clearing his parking lot in the winter and grass cutting in the summer. He was offended when I told him It's not my fault he wants $15.000 plus for it. He won't see again as nobody will pay that for it round here, it's an 8- very rare $10,000 tractor to 2 guys that have got to have it on a good day in an auction . He told me that price at Christmas It was still there at his house a month ago L.O.L
Guys will pay a premium for that green and yellow paint, but at the end of the day it will still go wrong or wear out just the same as any other tractor, and cost more for some of the parts to.
The one I was looking at ended up in the scrap as I told the guy we could put thousands more in it after we fixed other issues the year before, and it still not be right. He got a brand new Deere tractor to replace it and wished he'd done it 2 years before. The 1830 had been with them since it was 8 months old. and they look after stuff the tin and tires were immaculate. He figured his was over 10.000 hours after the clock stopped in 1985 ! It might not be the answer you wanted, but don't be disappointed if thats what you find out when you get into it. If it's simple you got hopefully a cheap tractor and very lucky.
