Years ago there was a guy that worked for a local dairy farmer who had a 1944 or 45 long hood John Deere electric Start "A". Another guy said he would give $5.00 to see some one crank a tractor by the belt pulley. The driver reached in to the tractor tool box, took out a rope about 3/4" in diameter, opened the petcocks, engaged the clutch, set the choke then wrapped the rope around the pulley and in one swift pull cranked the tractor. Then he held out his hand for the money. Everybody standing there asked him how he knew it would work, he said he had cranked it that way before.
