How many hours are on that engine? It might be a good time to rebuild it while it's out. Those are good engines. My backhoe had 18,000 hours on it, with the tachcometer cable broken, so who knows how many hours it really had on it. Mine still ran ok but I rebuilt it anyway. They had a flat tappet camshaft and the lobes on mine were worn so I bought a new camshaft. If the compression is low, it will be hard to start in the winter.
