Replacing the starter ring gear on the flywheel. Got the flywheel off and the ring gear off. Someone mentioned I should check the rubber seal in the spacer/oil slinger. Pulled it off. Seal was probably working, but pretty stiff and compacted. Replaced that. Thought while I was that deep I might as well check the "plastic" thrust washers on the crankshaft - at least the outside one. Looks good with a slight groove. Inside is probably worn the same. Should I just reuse it? Maybe I won't take the bearing off to check the inside one. Price isn't the object, but they are $22.00 each. Who knows how many hours these thrust washers have been in the engine creating only a small amount of wear. Lucky if the tractor get used 10 - 15 hours a year. I could replace only the outside one and avoid having to take the crankshaft bearing off. Where do I stop? Maybe a little wear on the thrust washer is just fine? Any ideas and your thoughts. Thanks.
