Mike that's an intersting question and yes Norman you are correct that the Model 'R' was John Deere's first diesel wheel tractor. Or, was it really. Officially, I believe it was, but I'm going to tell you a story a knowledgeable collector told me about eight years ago. He told me that when he was younger, just out of school he worked for a tractor wrecker at Treherne, MB and that one day an old Model 'D' John Deere came in and he claims that it was diesel and had a large injection pump on it. He says that to him at the time it was just junk and he only found it interesting at the time and now knows differently. I later asked someone who is quite knowledgeable about John Deere and he told me that that John Deere initially tried to 'diesel' the D and had some units out for testing. Anyone out there know anything about this?
