Could you double check your model number as I can not find where JD ever made a 2045D tractor.
In general any of the Mexican and Indian built JD tractors should be avoided. They are not near the quality of the US and European built tractors. They are JDs attempt to get some of the "VALUE" base customer market. They see companies like Mahindra selling a lot of cheap simple tractors. JD wants some of the market. JD does not do cheap well.
As for the last part. The most reliable 40-50 HP 2wd tractor that I can think of would be the Ford 3600 or 3620. Dead reliable and pretty simple. I see 1500 hour Ford 3610s sell in the $8500-9500 range. I think this is not a bad price for that tractor.
I should mention that JD 5210s are pretty good too. I have one with 3000 hours on it that has been a good tractor. I am just not really happy with JD as a company right now. LOL
