My neighbour called me a couple days ago and asked me to help with his mustard harvest. He has a New Holland Elevation 8080 conventional combine that I have operated for him in oats, wheat and canola, but this mustard thing is sort of new to me. I say sort of because the last time I combined mustard I would have been around 15 years old, driving a Cockshutt 112 combine. I remember we had a heck of a time keeping the seed from sneaking out every small hole it could find, and I think we could make two rounds around a 65 acre field before that huge 60 bushel hopper was full. I'll probably go half a day before I fill the 350 bushel tank on the 8080.
Is mustard similar to canola? What kind of cylinder speed, fan speed, sieve and concave adjustment should I start with. My neighbour isn't too savvy when it comes to combine adjustments, hence his call for my help, but if mustard is similar to canola, it gives me an idea of where to start.
