1994 John Deere LX178 with 15 horse water cooled Kawasaki V-twin.
Up until last year, all I ever spend on it was the Three B's - Belts, Blades and Batteries.
Started running funny last year, replaced the fuel pump which helped a little, but didn't cure it. Had the carb off 3-4 times cleaning it and that helped temporarily. Thought I had it fixed but it came back this Spring.
I was getting tired of messing with it and Mawteen said "Jeeze, it's 25 years old, go get a new one already!" Intended to, until I looked at what $4000 gets you for a mower, compared to what I had. Suddenly, $150 or so for a new carburetor seemed like a deal!
Every Fall, I pull the deck off it, scrape and wirebrush the underside to clean metal, hit it with Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, touch up the paint if needed on the outside, lube everything, sharpen the blades, change the oil and filter and check the antifreeze. Pop the battery back in it in the Spring and its ready for another season.
