Ran into what you are saying about your Allis. My 46 inch Husqvarna had the original mandrels, pulleys, and belt since I bought it used. It is an AYP machine and well built. Replaced all of the parts this summer and put a new after market belt on it and the machine promptly started chewing on it. Went to an OEM FACTORY belt. Now here is the kicker. With the deck in the mow position and the machine running ,engage the deck and then turn the key off. You want to see where the belts are tracking especially on the idler pulleys. If you look at the photo you can see the black flat pulley is not in line. The bracket on the deck had been rewelded and was not aligned correctly.I took my grinder and beveled the spacer hub just a little and now the pulley and belt track almost perfectly in the center of the hubs. Nothing gets warm and the belt is happy as a clam. The belt tracking is pretty critical. Also the inside surfaces of the pulleys check for ANY rust or crap or bent sides. That will really rip belts apart. Use a file or a little sand paper to clean them. They should be shining.
