The muffin/cookie blocks spread the load of the pole in the entire hole so the pole doesn't sink further as the buildings weight increases during the build. We use 2 4x 8x16" blocks side by side setting on dry sacrete dumped into bottom of hole. The "Big Foot" plastic forms for concrete are also popular. They can also be incorporated with sono tubes to construct grade level piers. Code enforcement requires at least the muffin blocks in the bottom of the hole here also. Loren
