Yes, the chains will sling around even at 5 mph & chew stuff up that they hit. I'm not familiar with your model tractor, and only use the chains that happen to be around here in the past, so not much good on chain type/use, sorry.

Yes, the clutch is being worn down when you feather it. But, that's the way it is, gotta use it, that's what it is there for.

Most of your problems would be less if you had gotten a rear-mount 3-point snow blower. All the weight is on the rear end - I don't use chains with my blower. Often reverse is the slowest gear on a tractor, even slower than 1st. And, less driveline parts to wear out.

But, that's my pet peeve. :) Anyhow, with what you have, I would find a way to put more weight on the rear axle. A 3-point weight box (homemade from a 55 gallon drum, or whatever) is often cheap. flexable. Or wheel weights, fluid in the tires, a combination of the above. I haven't actually put chains on my tractors the past 5 years here in Minnesota - just have enough weight on the rear end to pull through. You will be surprised what 400 lbs or more will do for you....
