eric, somethimes you can get a new plug that is not good, most gas engines run at 75-95 lb. of pressure. i have a spark plug tester , you hook it to your air compresser and start turning up the air pressure and a plug should keep firing up to about 100-115 lb. of pressure. but they can stop firing as low as 50lb. of pressure and not work in the engine. so even by checking the plug hooked to the plug wire and turning over the engine the plug could still not be good and you are may be then looking for something else and it was just the plug,but like bulldog said could be the valves
