If you do not have your rear tires loaded, load them now. I agree with the post below...get the free chains and modify them. If you tighten them correctly you should have next to no slop for the chains to hit your fenders. My chains barely bow out at any speed because I have them tight enough to stay put. I have seen some people just slap the chains on and then have a half dozen bungie cords taking up the slack to keep them on. Not a good idea IMHO. As for ground speed, 5 mph sounds way too fast to be blowing snow. I should think that you are overtaxing the blowers ability to clear itself when going that fast. I also agree with another post below...blow uphill!
