I purchased an Airstream Trailer in 1977, they had made vacuum/hydraulic disk brakes standard that year. The old timers didn't take to them so they made them optional. They were great, the trailer stopped better than the tow vehicle, only problem was that they never caught on and parts (pads) got hard to get and expensive. I had to switch to electric in 1986 when I couldn't get a vacuum control valve. Airstream used the single hose design that fed a double vacuum booster (booster halves were seperated by check valves, when vacuum was bleed from the top chamber, the diaphram in the middle was attached to a master cylinder, which forced brake fluid to the brake calipers. Hope this explains how the vacuum/hydraulic brakes work.
